In the picture directly above is the Bird of Paradise flower, with which most of us are familiar. This particular specimen graces our garden. Above and to the left is another Bird of Paradise; one few of us have had the privilege to view in the wild. These colorful birds, which are genetically related to the crow family, are endemic to forest highlands of New Guinea, Australia, Southern Asia, the Moluccas, and associated islands.
Hibiscus. Always there to
cheer us up...a year round bloomer.
In September '03, these friendly moochers greeted the wife and I one fine day as we exited the side-garage door. There are usually about 10 of them along with a single heron awaiting a handout consisting of hotdog chunks.

Florida is home for many species of birds, like those depicted above and this
stork, who was captured digitally while pussyfooting around my back yard. It will compete with the blue heron already in residence. Picture

Ruth sometimes feeds them as a reward for exemplary behavior.
