We snapped a picture of our thirty year old grapefruit tree in January, 2002. Note that,  for this particular season at least, the fruit is congregated in the lower portion of the tree. Hopefully, this is not a permanent trend as this condition decreases production by about 50%. Ordinarily, this tree furnishes enough fruit to keep us amply supplied with grapefruit from about mid-December until the 4th of July. Yes, and we eat loads of it daily!

Here we have our friend, Big Foot, the Heron reviewing his domain, including the pole lamp and seawall upon which he is standing. The view is looking to the north from our dock.

Here is another view of the Banana Rive from the back yard.   Does our good friend, Big Foot the Heron, in the foreground, remind you of a inquisitive giraffe?  With a neck like that, I often marvel at their ability to swallow large fish as one gigantic, wiggling mass.  Our feathered friends do have the common sense to swallow their prey head-first!  Perhaps Big Foot is pulling "Forward Observation Post" duty for Dork the Stork.

flowers_holiday01 Included for a view by visitors is a picture of a flower arrangement we received in 2001 from son, Rick, who lives in El Paso. It is unusual in that it includes a little bungalow in the "forest". The miniature house even contains inside electric lights.

hibiscus_shrub_data.jpg

Still more hibiscus; a lot more!  It is no surprise that hibiscus is probably the most popular shrub in the south.  It is easily grown; it is beautiful; it is inexpensive and it is salt tolerant.  Salt tolerance is a very important consideration when plantings are near the beach.  This particular plant thrives at the South side of our "Florida Room" and West of the Ham Shack - PC room. To some, a Florida Room is known as a lanai.  Others may identify it as a closed patio.

snowbird_data.jpg

We call this exotic member of the Great Egret family "SnowBird".  This beautiful bird made her grand entrance to join our group of feathery friends in April of '03.   She is doing her best to get along with the resident herons, storks, terns, seagulls, and various and sundry other sea birds.   We are confident that Snowbird will eventually be accepted by the old-timers as a bonafide member of the Brevard County Feathered Moocher's Society, Inc.
No, that is not a direct view of the sky; it is a reflection provided by the then docile Banana River!

These pictures are taken with my
Kodak DC260 digital camera.
